First Shed
« on: December 25, 2011, 00:00 »
Dear All,

May I enquire of you all where one would purchase a cheap shed in the Birmingham Area to
go on my shiny new allotment (first one ever)? I Am very excited as I have inherited an apple tree some raspberry canes and some possibly black currants.

Many Thanks
Adam

Welcome to the site  :D

What sort of budget do you have, and how big?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Cheers guys

I am looking as cheap as possible but of course would like something good with out spending a lot maybe 200quid at most really as this will about £4 week  costs for the first year which is probably worth the time spent hauling stuff round

Try your local free-cycle forum.. Also ask around on the site.. someone may have a spare. Put up a sign at the site gate if you are allowed to.

how handy are you? If you can dismantle and transport a shed you should get quite a good one for under £200..eb*y is worth checking - they have a walton 8x6 new delivered for £201 at present

I have located a green ex-display shed for £100 and they claim they will deliver it fully erected and place it on the allotment for me for 20quid which I reckon is a bargain. I get a shed and the shed gets to live in it’s natural environment and full fill it’s destiny which is nice.ß

Is it a wooden one AP? Metal ones are very prone to condensation and need lining. Wooden ones can be tweaked to your own design - putting up shelves in even the most flimsy structure will help to strengthen it and will obviously be handy for yer stuff. Think about putting stuff on the outside as well - a rack for canes, shelf for potting and of course a gutter for the roof and a butt.
I anchored a bike chain through the floor and I chain my tools to that for a bit of security.
Sounds like you've got a bargain though - good luck with it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I would advise getting the biggest one you can afford  :D

I love my old, second hand shed. I re-felted the roof last year and now it no longer leaks in, so I can sit in it and not get wet. How fab is that  :D

Get yourself a butane cooker and some old mugs etc and you'll be a happy camper  :)

I have been told that the bucket can also help your compost heap along  ;)
