Recommend me a mower
« on: August 15, 2007, 08:20 »
I need a new mower for the lawn at home. Much as I'd prefer petrol, the lawn really doesn't justify it and it would probably be a bit too cumbersome anyway.
I have a flymo compact at the moment and it's on my list of one of my worst purchases. It's terrible as it takes about 3 passes to make any sort of a job unless I change the blade every 3 months.
Something under £80 would be preferred!

I think petrol would be too cumbersome for my small lawn and it would also take up too much shed space.

go for a handmower - Qualcast Panther 30 - lightweight, needs neither petrol or electric, adjustable cutting heights, grass collector, little roller for making bowling green stripes - what more do you need - mine does small lawns at home and grass paths at lottie.
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

And if your want one I have a spare si-mate.  I got two from freecycle, both in excellent order, and only need one for the lottie paths.  Just send me a PM if you're interested !

Try looking at one of these, may also be called Bosch not qualcast, used to sell loads of them at B&Q hardly ever had them back, I have one & my lawns about 45' x 20' at the widest works very well.

Thanks for that. I won a Bosch Rotak on ebay last night for £41 (graded) which is only in Tonbridge so saves the P&P.

Auntie - I'll be in touch over the mower as my OH is interested for the allotment paths.
