I put 5 charlotte seed potatoes in the ground march 6th,this is the first time growing first early potatoes,i have dug 4 plants,we have had 13lbs,is this a good amount,some of them have been huge,big enough to make chips from,for a chip butty :lol:,my husband would love that not going to happen.
Have you had a good crop of clean and unblemished spuds?.

Mine, Pentland Javelin and Spunta, have been really good this year. I didn't get many small early ones, buy the time I checked they were mostly all on the big side - but lovely nonetheless :D

Last years were so disappointing, had an unexcepted dry spell while away and they never recovered.
This year they are lovely. Charlottes and some wilja, proper buttery from the Charlotte and wilja I hadn't tied before and lovely new potato taste.

My Jerseys and Charlottes are lovely, and a big crop too, nice and clean. Very pleased. Had to give them two soakings, but that's it.

First time grown in bags, set the first lot off end February in the greenhouse, Swift, Charlotte and Wilja.
Followed by another bag of each a little while later.
Swift 1 were good but nowhere near as heavy as Swift 2
Charlottes, both were excellent and cropped well, bag 2 probably had the edge as well
Wilja, still in the bags, but took the tops off yesterday and had a rummage round, nice size tubers but covered and left them until next week ;)
Next year, not going to be as impatient to get them planted up :nowink: :D

I had 5 bags with charlottes and a bed too down the plot. All bags gave a pretty good clean crop. But I was watering almost every day in the very hot weather we have had down here in Hampshire. This weeks rain was too late to impact crop. I think I will stick with growing in bags as I has minimal slug damage compared to previous years.

Ours have been exceptionally clean and a good size too: Charlotte & Lady Christl dug so far. Hope the others are as good!

Here's my harvest from the last of the second earlys, can't remember which, off the top of my head.
Suffered a little bit of slug damage (pile on the left) some of which is superficial but some they've really gone to town on. Might have to try growing in bags next year. This crop is from 3 plants.

Swift and Roseval were fair/poor. I thought it might be a bad year. Dug up Nicola yesterday and easily my best ever crop, very tasty as well. International kidney next, never grown them before this year. Fingers crossed

I have grown Casablanca in bags. No slugs but I didn't think the yield was as good as in the usual raised bed. Sharpe's Express in the raised bed are taking longer to maturity but those I have dug so far have no slug damage - I did put slug pellets next to the seed on planting though.
British Queen and Kestrel all looking good.
Maincrop a bit puzzling. One end of the bed with better drainage has taller plants and the Pink Fir Apple are looking ready far too soon. They did the same last year too.

Apart from furtling I've only pulled a few plants to date but so far good yield from the Charlottes and very clean, Kestrels have had a few with slug damage which I don't usually get on those.
Haven't touched the main crop Kifli yet.

I'm starting to dig my earlies, and have got a decent crop from the four plants I have dug up. No slug damage either, likely thanks to the dry spring and summer so far.

Charlottes - lots of them - lovely crop this year.
