Poo "toffee source"
« on: May 05, 2011, 09:08 »
Quick question to calm my partner!

Every one loves looking at poo, so here is a picture for you to enjoy!:

My question is - is this normal?  I have three girls and maybe once a day between them we find poo like this.

Sometimes it’s a bit more like toffee source then poo and it often has a few bubbles in it.

I read the poo topic but unsure if its worms/something worse or just the every now and then type of poo from a particular gland?

All three seem happy, active and eating/drinking well.  This has been going on for the 2 weeks we have had them but just want to be sure as a friend who has chickens swears she has never seen the toffee source style before!

They are 12 wks old

Thanks

Lew

It's a bit of a fuzzy picture but if the hens are doing it all the time it could be a problem.

If they are only doing it occasionally it is probably a normal ceacal poo.

I am no expert but I have some 10-11 week chickens and they sometimes do a toffee coloured looking poo and usually it is when I let them out of their run area to experience the big world.  I have put it down to a little bit of stress as their poos are not always like that.  My 3 year old chickens do not do this at all.

Well, i wouldnt say they do it all the time, three hens produce 1 between them a day, its deffinatly not 1 hen every poo becuase the nest area is nearly always clean and i have seen them all produce "normal" individually.

Is just maybe 1 a day and they dont half smell compared to the normal ones  :tongue2:

I think you're probably right MrsTruper.  I've noticed this which some hens when they are coming back into lay.  It must be the hormonal imbalance.
