Have been growing my Pumpkins in pots and they are now ready to plant out. How far apart should i space them and are there any other useful tips to ensure their success ?

Have you a way of keeping the frosts off??

To answer your question, I'd give them 3ft in all directions.

If you want to save some space, plant them adjacent to unplantable areas so that they trail over them, e.g. paths, covered areas.

I'm hoping to grow some mini pumpkins this year and was going to trail them up some fixed lines on my plot....would this work?
I'd like to think I knew what I was doing....but generally I don't!!!

If you want bumper crops ...

... plant them knee deep in muck ... that's what I was told by one of the old boys on the allotment.

So I planted the ones he gave me in my compost heap ... he was a tad peeved when I had more pumpkins than he did and they were bigger too ...

I've got several plants (well some up and some seeds planted, some not) but I'm going for one of each variety this year ... Jack of All Trades, a small green one that I can't remember the name of, Atlantic Giant (for a bet with my dad ...  :D ) and Butternut Squash, oh and a blue one!

plant them about 3 ft apart.last year someone told us to self polinate to ensure a good crop so we did that with one plant and didnt fare any different to be honest.we also dug a moat around the growing pumpkin and made sure it was well soaked every other day.also towards the end we gave it a taste of tomato food every week.some old boys at the plot told us to give it beer, but id rather drink it myself  .when we weighed in just before halloween we had a 4 1/2 stone whopper.hoping for same this year :D
i think some of you might have seen this before

I'm going to try growing an Atlantic Giant in my manure heap this year, with two tons to itself, it could be interesting!  Would I need to make a pocket in the poo and fill with compost, or just plant straight into the muck?

I'd go for a pocket of soil / compost.

My allotment neighbour put a large water dispenser bottle (with the bottom cut off  and the top plunged into the soil) next to his pumpkin patch and filled it every day with water.
We had a pumpkin competition in aid of our local hospice and he won 1st prize with his 196 pounder!!

Still time.  If you can start them under glass then you can get them in now

Plenty of time yet.  Start them off in a warm room in small pots with some gritty compost.  One seed per pot, pointed end down.   Put clingfilm or a sheet of glass over them but do not start watering until they emerge.
