Solway Houses
« on: September 09, 2011, 18:39 »
Im in the market for a new chicken house and came acrossed a chicken ark from Solway. Im thinking about the standad ark for 10 hens, which says has lockable front and rear doors, what im keen to find out is, can the front door have a VSB door opener fitted, as it does not say if its a slider door or an actual door. Im also keen to hear about how they are to live with/userabilty for chickens.

I have two of the large solway arks and my birds love them. The fron door is operated by a lever that you pull up and lock off, I don't know if the auto set ups are strong enough but it would be worth emailing solway to find out. I have no problems with mine  :)

I think Practical Poultry Mag have a regular feature where they are carrying out a comparison between a Solway and a wooden coop at the moment.

here is a photo of my first one - the wooden ones in the background had been taken out of commision having suffered with redmite (they had been treated and were waiting to go to their new home) and I was so impressed I saved up and bought a second, so now have 2 solway arks and 2 eglus as broody coops  :),

I too am thinking of changing my wood coop and getting the solway eco hen loft. I'm just wondering if the one nest box is enough for 5 to six hens. What do you folk think?
