Fairy rings in grass
« on: September 13, 2010, 17:30 »
Can anyone suggest a treatment for fairy rings of small toadstools in grass please. I avoid the word lawn as after a summer of builders comings and goings the area is looking sadly abused and is just coming back into green life but now with fairy rings. I intend digging up the grass when I remodel the entire area next spring and will returf in any case but I want to be sure the infection does not come back into the new turf later.
Many thanks
R

There's a lot out there on the web, try this one for starters:

http://www.grassclippings.co.uk/fairyrings.pdf

but as you're digging up the lawn anyway then:

"One labour intensive way to restore your lawn is to literally replace the infected part of the lawn by digging up the turf from the centre to 18 inches outside the infected area. Once the turf is up discard it and then dig up the infected soil that contains the fungal threads to a spades depth. Discard this soil (not on the lawn and preferably at a waste disposal site) and then fill the area with fresh uninfected soil and re-sow or re-turf the now bare area of lawn." http://www.lawnandmower.com/fairy-ring-disease.aspx

This is what the RHS has to say about them:

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Sorry fatcatat but armillatox is not licensed for that use and thus illegal to use in that way, so we can't endorse its use on the forum.

I think you will find that it is now called Armillatox outdoor soap cleaner , and is therfore exempt from EU regulations. And it is brilliant on fairy rings.

I think you will find that it is now called Armillatox outdoor soap cleaner , and is therfore exempt from EU regulations. And it is brilliant on fairy rings.

It is sold as a soap cleaner - and is only licensed for use as a cleaner on patios etc.

It is specifically not sold in the EU as a herbicide and is thus not legal to use as such.

Quote from the Armillatox website: "Armillatox is not sold as a pesticide, insecticide or herbicide within Europe".

What you choose to do in the privacy of your own home is entirely up to you but, as previously stated, we cannot on this website condone the use of products in an unlicensed and thus illegal way.

So let's get this straight, Armillatox can advertise on their website that this product is helpful in eliminating fairy rings , but we can't. Who was it said "Stop the world i want to get off"

They do on armillatox.com, but not on armillatox.co.uk.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Is it really necessary to have to explain in simple terms to you?

normally american chemicals regulations ( as in .com) are tighter than european/british (as in .co.uk) - or have I got that the wrong way round?

The .co.uk site does not mention it's use on fairy rings for what should be blindingly obvious reasons.
