Autumn sown flowers for bees

What flowers can I sow during autumn ready to plant on the allotment next year? Looking for flowers that attract bees.

Are you looking for annuals JaK?  There are lots of hardy annuals that you can sow direct now to overwinter as seedlings, but you could also wait until spring if the plot isn't clear yet.

For bees, poached egg plant, nigella, borage and poppies spring to mind. In the spring you could add calendula, cosmos and nasturtiums.  You can use a few flowers of borage and calendula yourself in salads, plus the leaves and flowers of nasturtium are good.

If you want perennials, the flowering herbs like lavender, rosemary, oregano, majorum and thyme are pretty, useful to you and adored by bees  :)

You can sow cornflowers now (or in the spring). I grew a drift of them this year, mixed with poppies and night scented stock which looked and smelt stunning and the bees loved the cornflowers.

Sow sunflowers in the spring, they love those too and if you can get hold of buddleia maybe from cutting rather than seed and have a spot for a fragrant perennial shrub, it is another bee favourite.

And this is a bad thing for fragrant, colourful plants?

Strange behaviour for a shrub that is more easily grown from cuttings than it is from seed. The quote contained so many plant names, I wasn't sure which was referred to however, none of the plants in the quoted post self seed here.

Lucky you!
