Title: How do you work blue tooth phones
Post by: Caretaker on April 07, 2009, 19:07
When I go over to my allotment I loose track of the time and am late for dinner or tea, so the wife said take your phone and I will give you a ring if I need you.
Sounds good to me so far.
Gets my old phone that sits on the shelf in the kitchen wipes off the dust turns it on and away I go.
Thinks I do some rotavating and then some grass cutting.
Must be time for tea, gets home and the wife says you did not answer your phone, but I said I did not hear it.
Well to cut to the chase, my best friend said he has an old blue tooth phone going dead cheep all you need is the ear bit.
I can see me now rotavating away with my blue tooth flashing its blue light from my ear, happy as a sand boy but,.
How do you operate them, is there a switch to answer the phone on them, have they got a mike fitted?
Is it as easy as it looks?

In all honesty, I haven't got a clue. I don't take a phone with me to the allotment anymore. It's the only place that I can get away from things for a bit and have no wish to spoil it!! ;)

I'm sure one of our more up-to-date members will tell you all about it shortly.....

mind you, you could always agree to "sort yourself out" on the days you go. I'm thinking fish and chips, can of beer....... and no "late for dinner" upset... ;)

The headset (a mic and earphone) connect to your phone using the bluetooth protocol (just a set set of rules decided by scandinavian phone manufacturers - hence bluetooth after a viking).  Mine can be set to automatically pick up an incoming or wait until you press a button  on it.  It means you can keep your phone somewhere water and soilproof whilst on the allotment (within 10metres).  Mine even vibrates in my ear on an incoming call so even if I don't hear the ring I get a sudden shock.  Hope this helps

I just keep my phone in my trouser pocket and mostly ignore it when it rings.

I go to the allotment to get away from the blackberry - phonecalls, texts, emails all in one phone - its too much!

If you have to, just set it to outdoor (loud) and put it somewhere where you can here it from most of your plot.

the concept of people walking round the allotment talking to themselves on a bluetooth headset is a bridge too far. there are all your lovely plants that need talking to - they may get jealous!

I am getting the phone and bluetooth only for when I rotavate as I can not hear when to go for lunch, tea, guest arrive etc.
Well I got the phone for £20 plus it has a camera to take some pictures of the veg and MP3 player so I can listen to Beethoven or Queen.
I spent most of my day getting the blue whatsit  to work but all is up and running.
Oh I forgot to add it has a flashing blue light just in case I get lost.
The total amount spent was £48 as I got a 1G memory card two.
Now back to rotavating.
