container flowering plant....

I'm growing 2 jasminium officinale (sorry about spelling if incorrect!) plants in 2 large containers to grow up a chain-link fence. As the containers are 60cm2 there will be a large area of the soil on show. Rather than cover with bark I was hoping some1 could suggest ideal flowering plants or foilage (the kind that will return year after year) that won't affect the jasmine & vice versa.

Or even the type of plant would be great, i.e. border, rockery etc

 

Edit: I should add that I don't want something that will grow much in height, in fact something that will slighly trail over edges would be good.

Creeping thyme?

Low-growing geraniums such as "Ballerina" would also be nice, plus you could also put some pebbles on top of the soil which will be decorative and also conserve moisture in summer.
