What has everyone planted?
« on: April 15, 2008, 17:33 »
I think I might be a bit ahead of myself.

I've just planted this morning 3 rows of carrots, 3 of parnsip and 1 of beetroot.

Is this too early?

Oh well, its done now.

and just for the record,

In the green house and some are hardening off I have alot (I mean alot) of peas on the go, various cabbages, cauliflowers, purple sprouting, brussel sprouts, climbing beans, toms, lettuces (7 varieties), some herbs, marigolds, dhalias and pansies.  (there is probably something I've forgotten)

and in the plot, onions, shallots and garlic.  No spuds this year, I simply haven't the room.

I knew I'd forget something, Leeks, 3 varieties.

Not ahead of yourself no...

This weekend:

Seedbed:
Cabbage (minicole)
Brussels
Purple sprouting brocoli
leeks

Under mini poly tunnel
Courgette
French Marigolds

Propogator indoors
French beans
Tumbling Toms
pumpkins (a giant one for allotment competition and normal ones for kids at halloween)

Second earlies: Lady Christyl (sp) on allotment

In raised beds at home
first row of mixed lettuce
second variety of parsnip found in shed in suitable gaps
another row of radish in between germinating parsnips

And planted out my two comfrey plants
Grandpa's lore: The only thing grown early is disappointment

Sounds like me - except I have planted spuds and have next to no room left. The PSB and Swiss chard will have to be all eaten soon.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

rhubarb - victoria
strawberries -honeyoye x 3 plants
basil sweet genovese, chives, coriander, dill, mint, parsley moss, lavender, nasturtium,
5 x colleen organic new potatoes in a barrel

I'm awaiting delivery of sage, thyme, rosemary, tansy, hyssop, comfrey, other chilli peppers - tepin & chinese five colour, liquorice, red onion baron & herb balm. these are hopefully to help deter pests with companion planting as well as to use in kitchen.

Blimey! Hadn't realised I've got so much in the space I've got! :o

Ain't that an understatement of the year candidate?

Even if you had a lottie, make sure it's just the one or few of each, depending on size.

How many have you applied for?

  Only applied for one, gobs.
But it'll be ok, got plenty of room for the pots. Just aren't allowed to dig the whole garden up into veg patch  :(
Mostly planted just around 6-12 of everything (except 24 peas & extra of some 'delicates' in case I kill some) So it won't be that much really  :D

Forgot to mention the Asparagus, (39 crowns).
Established fruit wise
Plum (2)
Summer Raspberries
Autumn Raspberries
Blackburrants
Strawberries
Goosberries

And that well known vegetable - rhubarb!

Also have a elder tree that we promised not to chop down as a fellow plot holder makes wine from it! (Yes he does share it).
