I have been trying to grow strawberries in the back garden, this is them below, while i was out last night playing dart MY kids went out and picked the first two lovely looking red ones and ate them...gutted as i wanted to eat the first one, better than tham eating sweets ...........
looking on the photo can anybody tell me what is the long thing growen out the plant...

It looks to me like Strawberry runners. The 'nodes' on them are the beginning of new strawberry plants.
I usually press them in a small pot with compost and once they are rooted and have a reasonable size I cut them from the main plant. I only keep one 'node' per runner and maximum 2 or 3 runners per plant (depending on how strong the 'mother'plant is).
