Title: Another half-plot looms/beckons...
Post by: Growster... on July 07, 2013, 09:02
Mrs Growster has just mentioned that if we could get the derelict half-plot next to our existing half-plot, she may think it will be a bonus area for such veg as main crop potatoes etc...

I'd like to have a dedicated asparagus bed, and we also both like artichokes, so, we're already filling this little extra acreage with perennial veg!

Does anyone have any ideas for more veg which we could grow in the same manner that we do already, which is 8' x 4' beds with grass paths? (if Mrs G decides we should have a go - I want to anyway)

We can grow more fruit of course, and there's already a Tayberry there, and strawberries could take up a fair chunk!

Also, it would stop all the blasted weed seeds blowing over our beds, and causing extra work...

Hehe this is how we ended up with three plots to stop the weed seeds and expand our space of course.

We grow everything in 8x3 or 8x4 beds.

What about a big rhubarb area. Good luck when do you sign o the dotted line

How about all veg you can turn into liquid refreshment?

We've already got two rhubarb beds, BQ! There's a litle negotiation to go through first, but we may just swing it!

If we don't it won't be the end of the world, I'll just give up gardening and go into a terminal sulk!

Already got one, Nige!

It's next to the blackcurrants which we wrote off last year, and which are an array of fruit this year!

But thanks for the idea!

Man after my own heart, Larders!

In fact, you could have been sitting next to us when Mrs G said that we could grow the hop (Fuggles), we've been promised, down there!

You weren't on the road out to Horsmonden this morning were you..;)

Seakale is a real gormet treat.  I force it under buckets for a spring crop and then uncover.  You get the bonus of white flowers later, which bees love  :)

Sad to say, Chrysalis, that the plotholders now want to keep it, They've been under some strain with personal family business getting in the way, and as we knew them, we thought they'd be pleased with the chance to give it up!

Not that worried, as reality kicks in when looking at yet another project before the last one is really perfected!

Hey Ho!

i would suggest a nice soft fruit area with raspberrys, strawberries, tayberries, currants - black/red as well as a few small fruit trees, u get dwarf apple, pear, plum so u can make a fruit area,  a small 4x4 herb bed and a 4x4 mixed lettuce bed ,   put in some lavender it brings the bees....

Now rearranging plans for fruit on the big Patch, J_B, as the potential one has gone away.

Soft fruit is a must of course, and we just live on about a pound of Alpines a day at the moment!
