Three questions
« on: March 17, 2008, 17:59 »
Hope you don't mind.

1. I have a converted shed 6ftx6ft and a run attached 15ftx10ft. How many large ish chooks can live happily in this space?

2. Thinking of putting some Welsummer eggs under my Cochins when they get broody. Can i do this and what are Welsummers like as a family bird?

3. English mustard colour (only darker) poo is comming out of one of my chooks - they are new from a large flock. Birds seem happy. Am starting worming with flubnetvet and now use apple cider vinager in the water - anything else i should do?
If you do things well, do them better. Be daring, be first, be different, be just.

there is another thread started Just Starting and quite a few answers here that relate to you question. How many chooks.
Not sure regarding the poo, someone will know though.
I have a couple of Welsummers and although they are lovely birds mine are not all that happy to be picked up etc, it could be that its because they were given to me by a lady who didn't spend much time with them. They are better than they were.
Happiest in the countryside.
Breathe deeply, and let the butterflies fly in formation!

We have a welsummer, kept with other breeds.Although the largest of them all, she's at the bottom of the pecking order, which is rather sad   She isn't the easiest to handle, mainly because she's quite large and she is quite shy. She flaps a lot when we pick her up, but once secure she'll tolerate being handled. However, she is an excellent layer and if the other birds are elsewhere, she is quite happy to feed from our hands.
