We have read that these are both perennials.

In a set of raised beds, would these need to take part in the recycling program and if so, would you just uproot them and replant?

Hi Jim

You can edit a posting incidentally.

No, perennials would typically be left in place for several or many years depending on species.  I grow neither of these two but I reckon they are long term so chose your position well, mindful of the height and spread.  Lovage is a biggy & asparagus ain't much smaller.   Munty grows it so await reply.

Hallo Jim T, don't know much about lovage - grew it once and found it a bit too pungent for my liking.

Asparagus will need a permanent bed - think carefully about where you site it as it could be productive for 20 years or more!
Gardening organically on chalky, stony soil.

with milkman on this ,, feed in the spring with a decent manure . make sure you have mounds as it doesnt like getting wet in the crowns . flat bed 2 ft wide and about 10 inch high after you plant it . cut when it shows sparingly in the first year after that take it all  cut weeds at same time and dump weeds in the trench between beds as mulch .cut until the 21st june .stop then and allow to go to flower . come winter when tops turn brown cut them down after all snow and frost has gone  weed before the first spears show . feed with manure and follow that for as long as you want the sparrowgras to grow . freezes raw  and thaws fine dont cook n freeze  :D
