Blue Barrel with screw on lid
« on: April 25, 2013, 10:12 »
Folks,

I live in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area and am looking for Two blue (any colour will do!) water barrels with screw on (ideally) lids.

I've tried a few potential sources but have had no joy - can anyone point me in the direction of a possible supplier?

Thanks,

Make do

Just cruise around the business parks, spot one and approch the firm.  They should let you have a couple for a small fee.

Cheers,   Tony.

If you're thinking of the 55 gallon blue barrels, I know they don't come with screw on lids over here, and somehow doubt the UK has them either. They do have screw-in bungs but not lids. Good luck.

They're often used to bring fruit pulp into the country!

Might be worth a Gurgle...

I work for a company called Pioneer (butchers/food supplier) they have the blue tubs with screw on lids and they have a unit in gateshead, my own boss was just saying he couldn't understand folks paying for water butts when these barrels are far stronger and only need a tap fixing to them.

So if you go around or pre phone them and ask they may be happy for you to take a couple away with you.

I got some from another company in Carlisle that used to keep sausage skins in them (Cavaghan and Gray) so maybe that is another avenue for you to look at, sure Newcastle will have similar types of factories as this.

Folks,

I've done the cruising and the fruit pulp investigations - they either had nasty stuff in them and the companies wouldn't let them go or the fruit pulp guys already had a contract to recycle them.

Bluealf - thanks for your tip I have contacted Pioneer - we can but wait and see now.

Thanks everyone.
