In past seasons I have frequently taken off several levels of leaves and buried the tomatoes pretty deeper and deeper ... and its always been effective.

What size pots do you use for the final pot? I've read various sizes - in inches, cm and litres and I'm not sure what to get. Also, the really big pots seem very expensive and I have about 16 plants! Will I need to pot them all up or is that too ambitious? I'm not sure how many tomatoes you get from each plant

Thanks Andy that's a better price than I'd seen so far. Will see if I can get some during the week.

Flower buckets at Asda used to be free or same things at Morrisons 8 for 99p, I take the bottoms out as I usually grow as ring culture on to gravel in a tray.

I'd endorse the Morriosns flower buckets idea. You have to drill some drainage holes though. I've had plenty of success with these.

Do Morrison's still do this?

Do you have to ask for them, or are they normally stacked somewhere?

Why do they re-use them?
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I went into Morrisons last weekend, ours no longer sells the empty flower buckets, but the lady behind the counter was happy to give me the 3 spare ones she had.  ;)
