The monsoon season up here may be challenging for gardening, but it's been a great few weeks for salmon fishing....

I've had 4 and lost a couple. All fresh fish in great nick between 5lb and 8lb. Some rivers getting their best July run for a long time up here. I kept the one with the wading stick beside it for smoking. Rest went back. Rivers are now too big after 2 inches of rain yesterday and flooding in places. Humid and drizzly today, good for nothing except potato blight I fear.....

Tight lines wherever you are.

Lovely fish, Mark!

What a privilege to fish a salmon river.
Thanks. It's quite a 'democratic' sport up here on most rivers and beats. I have three rivers I fish fairly regularly. One is five minutes walk from my house on local club water, which costs all of £60 a season. It's a bit of a jungle on the banks at times, and can get quite busy in the more accessible bits, but can always find a quieter bit.

I pay a bit more for the second one, which is about 45 miles away, but still pretty good value and only 14 of us in the syndicate with about 7 miles of water in the glorious Galloway hills. We can take a guest and sell day tickets for one beat too.

My 'Rolls Royce' fishing is in a syndicate where we co own the fishing on a couple of miles of the River Doon about twenty miles away from me. We have a full time keeper there for the season, so it's not as cheap, but very well maintained and the fishing can be superb I've had 3 salmon over 20lb on it in recent years. Overall, it costs me about the same as a season ticket at a big football club, or membership of a good golf club.

Worzel’s mother’s family come from south west Scotland.  We had quite a few holidays (often moist) up there.

He was hooked on fishing as a wee boy when his aunty bought him a wee rod an took him to the local river where he caught a mackerel        No prizes for guessing how it got on his hook.  All the fishermen on the bank admired his fish and told him what a clever wee man he was.

More than the fish was hooked that day.

Back from the caravan and first visit to the carp pits.
Three visits of around 2-3 hours and thirty three carp landed, it was at times like fishing for mackeral!
One good thing tho, they battled and are in top condition.
Biggest was just short of 10lbs and nearly all caught on floating bread.
Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

Probably the most fun way to catch carp ! :)
Not a fan of boilies and bolt rigs .

Well done on those of you who have caught. I've struggled this year. Managed 1 sea trout of 3lb, and several brown up to 1.5lb (kept one it had lovely red flesh).
Been trying for salmon, haven't even seen one yet.
Here are my children with my niece and nephew enjoying a bit of fishing over the summer.

Not a particularly good season this year, 2 sea trout only, and no salmon. Tried quite hard with the double hander for a salmon but no luck! Lost a bit of my usual passion this year due to C19. Hope i get a bit more motivation next season.
