A quick question for all you jam makers.  The recipe I have for plum jam says 4lb of plums to 4 lb of sugar.  Is this the whole fruit weight or the destoned weight?

4lbs of whole plums - the stones are removed after boiling, as in this recipe

Thanks Mum, I have a big pot on the boil.  I got 6 lb of useable plums so I did the recipe plus a half, I am expecting to get about 10 lb of jam  :D :D

Vivien Lloyd has a recipe for Plum Jam which is based on 3lb plums, halved and stoned in 3/4 pint water, simmered very slowly till pulpy. She then adds 3lbs white sugar and tests for set after 5 mins using the flake test. Rest for a few mins, remove scum and jar. Yield is 5 jars.
