I didn't have a cherry tree either, so bought a couple. Birds love them unfortunately.
But, didn't use my eyes either. In the roadways near where I live there are many edible cherries planted. I just hadn't noticed them. So now I pick from them instead, they aren't on main roads so I figure there isn't much of an issue with lead pollution. And they are free!

 A BRILLIANT link. I have a mrs Beeton cookery book (Bible). She knows how to do ALL that we newies need to know about jam making blanching,pickling etc. Have a look.
Home is where my garden is. I now have 2 homes.

Tescos on the Old Kent Road had quince bushes growing in the 'garden'.  Made some lovely quince jelly last year.  Sadly, they uprooted them in the spring & replaced them with some conifers... that have died in the drought.
