Hi,

Does anyone know where to get Strawberry plants for autumn planting? The garden centres only seem to stock them in spring. Also what’s the difference between buying ‘bare rooted’ or ‘runners’?

Marshalls http://www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk/index.html sell strawberry plants from September onwards (I have got some on order).

'Bare rooted' means that the plants will be supplied without soil round the roots, probably wrapped in plastic.  You should give them a good soaking before planting.  I am not sure what is meant by 'runners' in this context - it could mean unrooted runners for you to pot up.  I would steer well clear of them.

I've ordered mine from Suttons as I'm making a strawberry patch this year. Got the compost in now and dug over.
