Is the Carrot Fly done yet
« on: September 14, 2010, 09:28 »
I sowed with great success Autumn King 2 under Enviromesh.

I have avoided lifting the mesh and not done much weeding, I would now like to get to some of my carrots and also do a weed before any seeds drop for next year.

But his it safe to remove the enviromesh now or is the fly still active. I admit I am being very very careful but the  fly has decimated my crop for the past three years .
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

It is still possible that carrot fly could be around but as the weather cools the pupae are more likely to remain in the ground for the Winter rather than hatching into adults and laying eggs on your crops.

Lift the mesh. Weed and pull some carrots. You could probably leave the mesh off now but as you have it there you really might as well replace it.

I will keep mine in place until the end of the month and then remove it.
