Hmmm...

'The Turrets' is on a plot which had three houses once, and they were bombed in WW2. We know quite a lot of history about the site, and love the yarns about the place, but one thing still needs a huge ponder.

Where was the cellar?

Just a couple of weeks ago, I was digging a new area, untouched by us so far, and kept hitting bricks about 2ft down. The original building on that section was once a Penny Bank, as well as a corn store and all sorts of uses as well, finishing up as a tiny house.

I reckon that it is the original gold vault, with squillions stashed away about 6 ft down, also contains the deeds to half the Manor as well!

So, Sir Growster, just throw  a party, and let everyone here join in!

(But wait until I've dig out the runner beans in November please, or Mrs Growster will get very temperamental)...

If I dug up some pre-historic hoard I'd have to give it to some museum and you'd probably never see it again. I'd far prefer finding a little wooden box that someone buried because it was special to them.

I know what you mean... when I replaced some sash windows a few years ago I pulled out a load of rolled up newspaper from the sixties that the builder had used to block the brick cavity. It was fascinating unrolling them and seeing what people were talking about at the time.
