Title: Identification help required please
Post by: kittiwake on April 17, 2011, 21:28
Hi,

My sister has recently moved house. I have managed to identify most of the plants in her garden but am stumped on a few. Does anyone have any ideas?

Number 3 looks a little like a straggly winter jasmine.

Any flowers to help us out a little?

Number 1 has a flower similar to the heather family.

Thanks Learner. I shall research your suggestions. They have only had the house for a few months so everything is just starting to grow so the flowerless things are yet to flower. My sister might just have to be patient and wait for the plants to get in bloom !

Yes Bell heather or something similar seems to match. Thanks for that. She will be pleased.

No.2 looks like a campanula species, could be glometra superba.
No.4 looks like a Ceanothus to me.

No.4 looks like a Ceanothus to me.

You may well be right about No. 4 - the leaf shape looks the same.  ;)

3 is a winter jasmine - it flowers on last years growth - nice bright yellow flowers when everything else looks like it has given up the ghost.
4 i am pretty sure is a ceanthus (sp).

There seems to be some commonality developing in our suggestions…. Or should that be repeats?

Have we got all four yet?

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I am most impressed. I will pass them on to my sister and let her compare the ideas with the plants.

Sorry Aunt Sally. Will use the BBcode in future.  :(
