Slightly off topic but...

One of the other uses of Perlite I've read on a chilli growing forum is that it helps prevent those really annoying small blackfly things (very technical, I know  ) when used as a covering top layer for your pepper / chilli plants.

I'll find out this year as have suffered from them previously
