Autumn broad bean puzzle.
« on: November 29, 2013, 13:00 »
As usual, I've done my autumn set broad beans. I set them off as usual in the cold greenhouse in modules. Planted them out about a month ago. Doing smashing. I kept 3 plants for spares in the GH in bigger pots. One of the plants is getting muched to death in the GH. Those outside appear unaffected. What can be muching them at this time of year?

You have a snail or slug making a nice home in there - find 'em quick!!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Doesn't look like snails or slugs. Certainly not meeces. The leaves are nibbled along the edges like a caterpillar would. Only affecting the one plant too.

Shouldn't be vine weevil. I prepared the compost quite well and there were no signs. Nothing visible on the plant itself either.

vine weevil would most probably be more interested in the roots I think.

Pea and bean weevil?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I raised the affected plant off the floor and put it on a bench. The munching of the leaves has ceased. I wouldn't have thought that any leaf munching critters would be active in this weather/time of year.
