plan for next week.
« on: January 05, 2008, 01:31 »
I have a full week off work and a van , let s hope the weather is going to be on my side.
- collect manure from the local riding school and stable.
- pick free pallets to build a new composter and raised bed material
- collect folding side support from homebase ( don t know what they are doing with em, but when unfolded they are the size of a green pallet by 1/2 ft high and stackable) good to turn unto a composter...
- collect vegetable peels and trimming from 3 restaurants ( they kept all their trimming for the last week most of it being salad trimming, root veg peel, potato peel and other compostable items)
- collect more old veg from new covent garden
- build raised bed for strawberry and tomatoes
- finish lasagna bed and  new compost.
- bread
- boozy prunes and other fruits.

apart the bread and the boozy fruits everything is free and ready to be picked up.
my local council giving away free compost, I know most of the time the stuff hasen tbeen through a full hot composting cycle, but is it worth collecting or is it too much hassle to compost the thing again?

When you've done that lot, what are your plans for Tuesday?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

A lasagne bed?

Most lasagnes consist of mince, cheese, pasta, mushrooms.  Other than toms and peppers what's going in there?

they throw away hips of veg on a daily basis, I remember going there early in the morning to buy stuff for the restaurant and was godsmacked by the quantity of decent stuff thrown away everyday.
better in my compost than in a landfill, I might be lucky and find decent things to cook while being there.

you wouldn t believe what I found in skips around london .

Now that's given me an idea for my pasta sauces.  This year we had terrible blight and very few tomatoes and I was determined to do pasta sauce.   So if we get blight again this year, I shall pop down to Vauxhall.

I don t really know another wording for this sort of raisedbed but the ideawould be doing layers of greens and brown a layer of compost on the top. so you are composting under what you are growing.

lasagna recipe:

sweet nasturtium: near whereIlive, in harrow, there salittle shop who sells very cheap boxes of vegetables, the last timeI went there I ended up with 12 kg of cherry tomato ready for tomato sauce for 2 whole pound.... that s what I call a bargain. the cheap stuff has to used quickly but at a quid a box...who would complain???
