can anyone tell me roughly how long my ex barn hens will live? the egg man told me they were 74 weeks old, my dad thinks they'll all be dead within a year  :cry:  because they were bred for egg production and not longevity.

You will have a few losses but the majority, barring accidents or illness should go on for three, four or more years.

Think there will be a difference between hens bred for productivity rather than longevity that are flogged for max production in what is still a very alien environment and those that are nutured and allowed to live a much more natural existence  :o
