5 week old chicks
« on: August 18, 2009, 17:00 »
Hi guys and girls

New to the forum.  currently have 6 Chicks, 1 hen, and 8 ducks  :)

Really enjoyed reading lots & lots of pages.

I have some 5 week old chicks, they are with the hen still and doing great.

The only problem I have is one of the chicks seems to be getting really aggressive to the others, I think this chick is a male as he is a completely different colour to the other 2 of the same breed, (we had a broody hen so bought some chicks to go under her)

Any hints or tips would be great, cna take some pics and pop on too if anyone could offer advice on whether they are hens or cockrels from their picture.

many thanks

looking forward to many more posts on this great site.

Jo

Hi rossivale and welcome. I don't know anything about sexing chicks but if you post some pics I'm sure someone can help you out, if you need help with the pics here's how I do it.

Save your photo from the camera as you would normally. Click on it to open it then click on the icon at the bottom of the photo that opens it for editing. At the top of the screen click on "image" and where it says skew/stretch reduce the size from 100% to about 35% then save it, when you save it rename it so you don't confuse it with the original. Then when you do a post on the forum click on the "additional options" and "browse" until you find your new photo. it will appear small on the page until someone clicks on it then it will enlarge. Hope this helps.

Hi Iwantanallotment

I was told cream legbar, 3 of them, 1 black columbine, and 2 warrens

I just hope I have a few girls  :(

2 of the legbars have the tuft like the second pic, but the 1 is totally different, so I am guessing it is a boy

the 2 warrens are diferent as in the 1 has a large comb, and red bits under the chin, so I think it maybe male

the black columbine I have no idea what sex it is lol

wait and see I suppose  :)
