What cutting back on booze and takeaways can do
« on: November 27, 2008, 22:51 »
My partner and I decided to cut back for the benefit of our guts

We bought a sealed money tin, topped it up with change, and decided to put it towards a project. Well, the offer of the allotment came along, we thought it would be a good reason to open the tin.

Grand total: £220.59.

!!!!!£££££Ker-ching££££!!!!!

This accumulated over 2-3 months.

We are compiling a shopping list. We are not going wild, but it may get us some sand, weed sheeting, wood for raised beds, and guttering for shed roof. I've advertised on freecycle, and i've tried to argue that I can make guttering out of pop bottles, but OH is being un-frugal.

I bought a small tin for my holiday, got £100 for that.

I'm buying these tins for my family for Christmas. Only a £1 from the £1 shop. Thats also frugal.

Ah ha,

Well done - it soon adds up. I have a large plastic bottle that has around £200 in any coins under 50p; I empty my purse every day or so. It'll probably hold £1000+ when it's full. I feel like Scrooge when I sit on the carpet and sort it all into stacks ... and then a cat comes along and swipes it all over the place.

Blimey! Well done. Keep it up.

We'd accumulate about £10 in the same period if we gave up

There's nothign left to give up

I've tried cutting back too, but due to lack of willpower only usually manage 2-3 days.

Sadly I'm in the same boat as Poultrygeist - only thing to give up is plants and that isn't going to happen in this lifetime.

But good for you Etherelda.
