« on: June 01, 2009, 12:42 »
good afternoon,hi to all,
in need of a bit of assistance, can anyone tell me what is the best reasonably priced rotavator to get.been keeping chucks for a year now and want to start doing a bit more on the gardening side.not sure of the size of area of ground i have to work with but i'd say,bit clay and very dry,200ft long by 70ft wide,
does anyone know of one to loan or hire, can collect.in bedford area.

well you have a big bit of land to play with, can you not get a farmer to turn it over 1st with a tractor then think about a rotavator
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

go for it then poppie.get the biggest wheel driven one you can get your hands on,hss a-plant etc all hire them, but i'm sure if you get the phone book out there will be smaller hire shops who can help you out.

We hired a very decent rotavator from Jewsons for around £40/day asume they will have similar near you

It was wheel driven, very easy to operate - you don't want the 'tiller' type ( non wheel driven ) they can lurch wildly when they hit a hard patch or dig in where it's soft - real back killers
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

I suggest hiring initially - so you can get a decent beefy machien that will make light work of it (self propelled, rather than just powering the tines, as has been said)

Then perhaps consider a Mantis Tiller to keep the work the soil when you need to.
