More mystery plants
« on: February 28, 2010, 13:55 »
Well OH has been up this morning with generator and angle grinder, doing some preparatory work for taking three disused polytunnels down before they get moved to the local community garden. This is in the place from where we have inherited some plants already. He found some more cowering in a corner today and couldn't resist bringing them home (we do have permission). :) Anybody wish to hazard a guess at what any of them are? (Bear in mind they have been sitting parched inside a polytunnel).

The one on the left isn't rosemary, is it?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The one on the right at the back ...the leaves look like a pittosporum??
I mean the tallest one at the back.

Is the one in the middle at the front a box plant that's gone bare at the bottom....the leaves look little enough??

No Yorkie, I just went out to rub the leaves to check. :) I'm afraid its not a very good picture, I just took a quick snap with my phone as the rain was coming on.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know a Pittosporum if I met one MoS , but I will read about them. You could be right about the one at the front being box. :)

Hi

The bigger plant on the left looks a bit like a Callistemon (Bottle brush). I have one and it looks a bit similar. There are many different species, so you only now what you have until it flowers, if it is a Callistemon at all.

The tall plant on the left looks like a bottlebrush (Callistemon), the plant on the right with the largish leaves I think could be a Viburnam.

Hi

I also thought that the smaller plant on the right is maybe a Viburnum, but was not really sure. But as we both thought the same, maybe it is a Viburnum.

Have another look at the one on the right.  It looks to have a flower bud at the end of one of the stems, just like a Camellia, and would a Viburnum have its leaves at this time of year

My guess for the right is either solomon seal or toadflax.

No I don't David. :D When we have had plants from this source before now, I have normally had a fair idea of what they are, but not this time.  ::)
