Why do my sweet peas always sulk when I plant them out?  >:(  This is the second year in a row that lovely healthy seedlings which have been carefully hardened off just sulk when planted out on my allotment - for weeks.  Is this normal?  What am I doing wrong? Last year they came good in the end (with some losses) but later than the ones grown by my neighbours  :( >:( I hope they decide to stop sulking soon.

My lotty ones really took off when I planted them out, my garden ones on the other hand are taking forever. I think it may be to do with the makeup of the soil. My lotty soil is clay, my garden soil is sandy to sandy loam. I have them in two borders in the garden, one border is very sandy, the other is not as sandy and they are doing most badly in the sandiest border, so I suspect they prefer heavier soil.

No! Wow, how did you do that? Mine are not to good either so far. Not sure what to do with them, usually very successful  :(

I had 3 flowers which I whipped off yesterday.
They are sat in a tiny vase making my kitchen smell nice

I think I've a way to go before I have buds let alone flowers!!

They are growing and a nice healthy green colour - the wait I'm sure will be worth it!

I think I might have a decent vase full by the end of next week with a bit more sun. Tallest sweetpea is about 4 foot tall now and the main stem is really thickening and flattening out the way they do when they really get a grip. Lots of buds with the colour showing but not opened yet.
few years ago I had some September sown in flower by first of May. Must try that again.....

I think I've seen the beginning of a bud on one of mine...so hopefully I'll see some flowers soon.  I've never grown them before so I'm looking forward to seeing and smelling them! :)

So it's now a week on and some of my sweetpeas have finally stopped sulking and started to climb up their wigwam  :) - and I can even see the first hint of a flower bud!  :D

I've just cut the first small bunch.  They are on the fireplace in a little vase and I am on the sofa wallowing in the scent  :D

However late they are, they are always worth it  :)

I have 2 - does that count as a small bunch

Added to my first red rose, they make a heady perfume  :)

That counts as a small mixed bunch  ;)  I'm not usually that fussed about flowers in the house, but sweetpeas are so lovely and scented.  Added wafts of rose can only make things better  :D
