Title: Blue Oyster Mushrooms

I take zero credit for these, they were raised by my son.

"Blue" refers to the color of the very young mushrooms which are gray with a slight blue tinge in the right light. My son bought a kit for these, and has raised several clusters of these mushrooms.

I think this deserves a how-to-grow book as a gift for the holiday-that-shall-not-be-named at the end of the year.

My son included them in a dish called 'stir-fried mixed mushrooms' from the book "The Food of Szechuan". The author is Fuschia Dunlop.

It was really good!

Son is a "foodie", he has learned to cook.

I'm posting a follow-up to the original post. After researching what to do when the original "block" stopped producing, my son buried the block inside a plastic laundry basket of wheat straw.

Attached is a photo of the result. Those mushrooms are mostly too young to pick (except the largest) but are growing like mad on all 4 sides of that basket.

One of my favorite songs, back in the old days.

I'm finding that growing the mushrooms (at least this type) is surprisingly easy. If I had more time on my hands, and a basement, it wouldn't be hard at all to produce oyster mushrooms for local restaurants and farmer's markets (for fun and profit, of course!).
