Hello everyone,

I've been growing fruit, veg & flowers in the back garden for the last few years. I have a ventilated greenhouse in there and have grown the usual suspects to various degrees of success.

Best 2016 was 23" parsnips (roasted them unpealed), worst were scruffy looking cabbage which didn't really heart up. Christmas dinner, my garden provided sprouts, parsnips and leeks.

Just been given the news that I've got a  plot at a local allotment but haven't yet been able to see it. I'm being shown round it this weekend, then I have to go to a meeting at the end of the month and do the neccessaries to get a key.

Looking forward to the extra growing space (I've already used up all of the 2016 garlic & onions) but I'm of no doubt it won't be easy and I'll get both good results and bad.

Celebrated the news today by buying seed potatoes, (Maris Bard, Charlotte and Maris Piper) and garlic, (Solent White, Marco and Arno)

Good news, the days are getting longer :-) keep smilin'!

Welcomt to the forum Bill.
It's a great feeling having a new space to start growing on.
I have just got an allotment for the second time, i had one for over 10 years before but had to give it up when we moved.
I get my keys tomorrow hopefully so will be having a first look on Saturday.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks for the welcomes,

Went down this morning and the secretary showed me around. I've been given two plots that are a few plots apart. One of the plots has a greenhouse which is a bonus. There are loads of weeds, trees and bushes so plenty of work to do.
Have been allowed to start work on one of them so went back late afternoon (after golf) and got 45 mins in digging over one patch and what a suprise, soil is great and under the weeds, my first crop of the year - potatoes.
Chatted to a few of the chaps who've been there years and they recomend for the first year, potatoes, onions, garlicm leek and to see what the trees and bushes do.

A few pics
