spinach stirfry
« on: June 14, 2011, 22:22 »
This has become a regular in my bachelor evening meal/tea.
Pick fresh onion and spinach beet.
Oil in wok. Add mustard and cumin seed. Add freshly chopped onions. Toss it for a while until Sid and add cut spinach beet.
Add salt and turn it for two minutes. Have it with toasts.
Simple yet satisfying.  :) takes less than 10 minutes to make.
If you want you can add half a chilli.
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

Lovely.  Is it mustard seeds (not ground) you add, and can I just clarify what you mean by Sid?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I love stirfries and make loads, which is why I love the oriental leaf mixes from seed as they're so easy but give a good bulk of greens for the wok

I was picking onions, calabrese and spinach today for mine.  I had ginger, garlic and chilli but no mustard seed unfortunately.  I shall get some and try it as I have cumin seed

Thanks for the tip  :)

Although I like spices. I like any veg stir fried just without ginger and garlic. They tend to hijack the taste of vegetable.

I use different spicing depending on how I feel. The oriental leaves are really quite spicy on their own  :)

Oriental/mustard leaf mix
I tried cooking these briefly in olive oil with a little garlic, but they just turned to mush.  Has anyone any advice?  I need to do something asap, as the trough of 'Fancy Frills' oriental (mustard) leaves I planted is about to flower!!  Have loved them in salads with my 'cut and come again' Four Seasons mixed lettuce leaves, but obviously sowed way too many and now need other ideas. :D

Too much oil and pan not hot enough, is my guess. So that they steamed rather than stir fried  ....you really only move them around in the pan for a very little while  :)
