Title: Adding manure to my raised potato bed.
Post by: Goosegirl on April 15, 2019, 14:25
I still have my pots and onion sets to plant as I only got the bed into a planting stage last week and didn't get the manure dug in, then I've not been too well, so if I get my pots planted this week would it be ok to put the manure on top or would it prevent the haulms growing through? As for the onions I'll set them in then put the manure in the spaces between the rows. Does that sound ok?

I always mulch my potatoes as they appear. Then when they appear through mulch I earth them up.

I've put manure over the haulms as they appeared as a substitute to earthing up, and they were fine. The manure also acts as a soil conditioner after the potatoes are harvested.

As long as it’s well rotted you’ll be fine. No dig uses rotted manures as mulches 😉 as well as other mulches, you might find it’s the way to go, I dare you 😂
