Poor Gem is poorly again.
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:38 »
One of my lovely partridge bantys is poorly again. She's about 4 years old and it's always her, she is a bit of a loner and Buster seems to cover her whenever he sees her so she takes to her bed from time to time to escape his attentions! She looks very sad this time, she is eating and drinking but only cheese, grapes and treats but not interested in pellets. She just seems to want to close her eyes and has taken to sleeping with her head under her wing at night. I have her in a crate in front of the Aga as her feet felt really cold. Interestingly, whenever she's off colour her feet feel cold. Anyway lots of TLC for a few days indoors and fingers crossed that she'll pull through. I have a horrible feeling about her this time...I sooo hope I'm wrong.
 :(  :(

Keep your fingers crossed for her as she's such a character...she's usually a bit overwieght as she's a greedy thing but she's like a sparrow at the moment.

Doesn't sound good Judi  :(

I'd suspect egg peritonitis in a girl of her age,  good luck to her  :!:

:( Thanks for all your kind comments. Muntjac will stop the cheese although she's not had it for ages, just today because I couldn't get her to eat anything else. I've given her a dose of antibiotics but she looks very droopy and sad, just want to cuddle her but she probably needs quiet and rest...hate to see her so sorry looking. Keeping everything crossed and won't give up whilst there's a chance. At least Buster can't pester her and she warm. She enjoyed Steve Wrights Sunday Love Songs this morning     but sadly it's finished now.

Will let you know how she goes on.

:) Gem has just starting pecking at half an apple and drunk some of her water to which I've added vitamin stuff. She just isn't interested in corn, pellets or the like. She had a little brown bread soaked in water but really only wants fruit. Anyway at least she's taking something herself as at lunch time I gave her a drink by syringe as she wasn't drinking and just seemed to be fading. Still keeping everything crossed for her.

:) Well Gem survived the night and has been pecking at apple this morning. Mixed her a little mash with bioyog and she's taking it and had a little drink of the "dosed" water :)  She's still in front of the Aga but standing rather than lying down. She still wants to sleep and looks very "pale"...you know what I mean don't you??!

Fingers still crossed for Gem...think she may have to become a "househen", as Buster doen't leave her alone...don't tell MOH though!

Little Gem's still poorly but she had a little wander on the grass in the sun today but she's very "weary".  :(  She isn't interested in corn just seems to peck away at half apples and grapes. She's drinking and steady on her feet but just isn't perky. She's back in front of the Aga with the following to choose from in dishes...pellets, corn, mash, a little bread, dosed water and half an apple!   Fortunately it's a large crate she's in! I feel that she needs to eat something to fill her out as she feels like a little bird, but she's just interested in pecking at the apple and drinking. She had a nibble at grass and leaves outside but again ignored the corn!

Any ideas for other things to tempt her and get her fat again? :?:

At least she's still here...
 :)
Judi
