We just got a lovely letter from Eon (was with EDF before & powergen before that) informing us that we'll still get great value from them next year, and by the way, they're adjusting our discount from 18% to 6% - think I'll be adjusting my custom to another supplier once the current contract ends so i don't get stung with early leaving fees,
they're all on the make, what with Centrica's huge Billions of profit  >:(

It is the same with all fuel, they know you cannot do without it so they keep hiking up the price to make more profit for their bonuses >:( >:(

My dad, he is 90 next year, had a letter from his energy company putting his DD up by £3,he was very confused as he has just had his bank statement and they have refunded the £400 he was already in credit.  How does that work then?

Presumably the refund was to bring him back to about neutral, then the £3 increase reflects higher prices for the anticipated next year.

Maybe Yorkie, but as he had built up a £33 per month credit it would need one hell of a price hike to need him to put his DD up.

Hmm. Fair point  :D

If you can look at his bills and find out his actual consumption from last year, I would go on the comparison sites, or at least the energy company's site, and input the kWh for an estimate of cost on his tariff.

Might also be worth double checking whether he's on the best tariff (assuming he's not in a tie-in period).

I suspect in this case that they've put the DD up in the hope he won't notice and they'll get lots more interest on his credit balance in the meantime!  Ring them up and challenge the DD payment.  I've successfully done that in the past.
