The idler jet is adjustable, and throttle stop for setting idle speed, but that is it. A conversion kit to make the main jet adjustable was available but, assuming you haven't got that, I would leave the stop screw alone and screw the idle jet adjuster in, counting the number of turns so you can set it back to the same point after cleaning. Tecumseh and DellOrto had a tie in, as the carbs are very similar and Aspera made Tecumseh engines in Europe, using DellOrto carbs.

Thanks for the information, would around one to one and a half turns out seem about right for starting purposes as the Carb is in the process of being overhauled and I have lost the paper I wrote the number of turns out on.

Yes, I would try that. The FHC20 was notorious for being bad to start after a long lay up. You could clean the jets out and get everything right and they would still only run on choke for the first half hour or so. That is why some repairers fitted the adjustable main jet. Qualcast resolutely refused to do this, fitting a different plug and finally changing to a Walboro carb instead, but by that time the reputation of the A114 engine was as "a bad starter" and Qualcast had to start buying in engines for their mowers.

I had 2 almost identical machines at one time, one had a Tecumseh carb, the other the dellorto, if you cant fix it you might be able to do a straight swap (if you can get the Tecumseh one), this was on an aspera engine (well 2 engines).
every year at the beginning of the season I had to spend a day or so getting them running again.

Thankyou both for the information, I can get a 2nd hand carb and a New Tecumseh H30/35 carb so I will see how I get on. DId not think of Walboro.
