Title: nigella
Post by: eliop on May 23, 2020, 09:49
Hi,

My nigella - sown 7 weeks ago - are teenie tiny. I sowed about 30 and gave 15 away to my neighbour. She planted they out and they are tall and flowering. Mine are only 2 inches above ground.

She has done everything I did. I think she watered less - I know they like dry soil, but I didn't water so much.

what do you think i could be doing wrong?

I thought nigella were best sown direct.  I have never actually sown them in any other way than direct into the garden and then only once as they self seed every year, but I thought they actively disliked being transplanted.

They do have quite a tap root on them.  Could they have got held in pots or seed trays too long and had some sort of stunting to that?
