Purple eggs?
« on: July 19, 2011, 13:46 »
Some time ago we were talking on here about a chicken that lays purple eggs.  I wasn't imagining it was I?

I've read that before too. It is a breed called the easter egger but I have no idea if you can get them here or if they have a different name in the UK?

Hi

There's also a picture of the eggs on the club website.  Lovely chicks and the eggs are described as a pinkish plum colour.

they are plums - the croad langsham egg is the one in the centre of the top picture. The plums are there to show the bloom that the croad langsham egg has.

Aw, now I'm disappointed.  It would be an amazing colour for an egg.

You sure they are plums Joy?  They look like it, but this is what it says under the photo.

"A good example of a Croad Langshan egg freshly collected from the nest box is quite beautiful. They remind me of sugared almonds. "

sorry  :(. As I said in the original topic the eggs are pinkish with a plummy bloom like plums rather than being plum coloured. The colouring also depends on the breeding and the large fowl are better coloured than the bantams. The birds though are really pretty and they were once described to me as standing like a wine glass with their heads and tails both upright and their legs like the stem of the glass (only a French person would think of a bird in this way  ::) - Hello Cochin if you are reading this xx  ).

I know what it says under the photo on there but I have seen the same photos before - also since when have sugared almonds been the same colour as Victoria plums  ;)?
