Help, my potatoes failed to crop
« on: July 22, 2014, 14:43 »
Hi, My potatoes failed to crop this year, And I dont know why!

I planted my rocket seeds at the same time as last year, in a different location, only I got nothing-very little.

On inspection, the seeds are 4-5 times bigger then when I planted, but are full of black holes!
Any ideas?  any help would be nice so I get a better crop next year!

The seed potatoes usually go mushy as they feed the rest of the plant. I have nev failed with spuds but would like to know what went wrong.

It is very unusual for the seed to get bigger. We need more info please.
Did you chit them? When I plant mine out the seed is starting to go soft because it's feeding the shoots.
The seed eventually turn brown and  just the skin remains. What colour are your potatoes?
If the potato is white then it is a new potato probably infected by slugs.

I have grown Rocket this year in pots and in a trench. Good yield but with a little slug damage in the trench.

Thanx for an answer, I did chit them, and the seeds are darker than they started too, I wasnt aware slugs could do damage to root veg( i`m new to this)  slugs have ravaged my cabbage though(despite using pellets)

they are not the same big yellow and brown slugs that you see on the soil surface - Keel slugs actually live in the soil and can damage tubers and roots.  It's possible wireworm did the initial damage, then the slugs moved in
