Title: Freezing Habaneros?

Just reading on an old thread of John and Vals experiences with freezing Habaneros. I have'nt cut any yet, and have read various recommendations to wear Rubber gloves, and cut them over a couple of placky bags on top of the chopping board etc.,
Are they that lethal?? :ohmy: Do you remove the stalk and seeds???
When adding to the pot, do you finely chop?
Any advice will be welcome folks. (Be gentle with a Chilli virgin here please) :unsure: :)

i dont know if this is the right way but i have frozen some chili's whole and then when i want to use them, get them out the freezer leave them for a couple minutes and thne chop them - find them easy to chop that way - i use the stalk if its still intact as a sort of grab rail  :lol: :lol: i keep hold of the seeds and check how hot the dish is first before adding them

i think with most chili's gloves are a sensible idea if you are prone to itching or poking yourself in the eye (i am a very itchy person and have been caught out too many times now to take the risk)

and if you dry them keep nose well away from the powder  :wacko:

have frozen some chopped in ice cubes before too - that works quite well, when i run out of chili's i buy the reduced ones from the supermarket and freeze them

wont run out this year tho - hubby taken it upon himself to grow a chili mountain :wacko: :nowink: :nowink:

Ok chilli advice for v******

1. Don't cut up habaneros and put in the seeds unless you want to burn both your mouth and other parts next day  :lol:, until you are virtually numb all over.

2. Put one in whole as the flavour is gorgeous, and then you will see it and not eat it by mistake

3. If you feel you want to try them fairly hot, slice finely and then chop, without seeds or membrane

3. You can freeze them whole in placky bags if you have too many to use straight away, or dry them strung on string

BUT take the advice about keeping fingers out of eyes and any other sensitive place or  :wacko: :wacko: :wacko:

I didn't wear gloves last year when i chopped chillies.....just remembered not to rub eyes/nose/lips or go to loo :ohmy: until hands and nails scrubbed :lol:
I chopped mine up and froze em, without seeds.....found out just how hot they were after first stir fry :D
Going to dry them on a string this year as there's less room in the freezer!
