No
but you can plant the seed in late August and over winter them. I tried seed at the start of the year and it was a failure the weeds smothered them before a could see them to weed them. Ploughed the lot under
I am going to try again in August.
The seed take an age to come up (3 weeeeeeks) So you need to have very weed free ground.

I always grow onions from seeds.sow overwinter kinds in this summer
for early next summer and sow other kind indoor dec onward plant them out as seedlings. you have more choice of varieties and in my opinion they don,t bolt so easily (tho others might not agree :0)

Is there such a thing? We spend 2 hours a day weeding and still cant keep on top of em!
If only weeds were edible!

what stops you planting seeds in modules in the greenhouse then potting them out next spring ?

You can collect seed but you will struggle to amke sets from them for spring planting next year, rather another year later, but you can buy seed to sow in the mean time for sowing between dec-feb for maturing the same season, these will be better to save seeds from.
