Title: Where has the white grape juice gone...?
Post by: Growster... on May 02, 2012, 07:09
We usually make white wine from about 9 or 10 litres of white grape juice, dry cider, and sugar, (makes 6 gals)

It's fine, but that's when you can get hold of the litre packs, because they seem to have vanished from supermarket shelves!

There's plenty of red (£2.50 for 2L at Twongos), but white...none!

Any ideas anyone?

Both the Sungrown and their own brand Not from concentrate have been on offer for a while at some trashco stores bring it down to the price of the budget stores. I expect that's increased demand a bit.  From recent experience I do think they are running their stock rather low especially on "sale" items - perhaps on purpose?

I've never seed any in Snasbods and Waitrose, do you have any of the budget supermarkets locally ? I think all of them stock WGJ at a good price but you need to buy a few at a time (not really an issue).

 £1.50+/ltr.  Market rate for budget WGJ is around 85p/ltr if memory serves me right.

Edit.

You could bulk buy online ?  WGJ here 83p/ltr  (http://groceries.asda.com/asda-estore/search/searchcontainer.jsp?trailSize=1&searchString=white+grape+juice&domainName=Products&headerVersion=v1&_requestid=81036)

I got some in Trashcos at the weekend, they only had the red in the Sungrown budget range, but plenty of white NFC on the 2fer offer.

Lidl has WGJ and RGJ, but I'm not sure of the price at the moment.

Thanks All, for some good advice!

Asda seems the best option here, although the big Twongos in Hastings might still sell some! We think Morrisons in TW might be a place to check too.

Some time ago, our local small Local Twongos had a mistakenly priced WGJ on their shelves. It was one of those deals where you get two for £2.50.

Staring at the price tag, I saw that the price for on was actually 55p, so Mrs G took it to the till to check.

'Yup', said the pleasant lady and gent with a big earphone, 'they're all 55p each. The £2.50 doesn't come up on the screen...' So we bought ten.

One week later, the same thing happenend, so we bought nine, (cleared the shelf).

Now None...!

Headline in next week's local rag 'Growster panic buying WGC'...;0)
