Title: Quince
Post by: SpudtheBinx on November 14, 2008, 14:00
Is it possible to buy quince seeds? I have looked online and can really only find shrubs themselves for sale. For clarity sake I mean the edible quince for making jellies and wines. Mrs STB is also interested in learning to graft so growing quince rootstock from seed for her practice would also be handy :)

Thanks

David

You'll probably find that they don't grow true to type from seed, like apples.

Yes but it would be quite interesting to see what kind of fruit came out, as well as having some rootstock to practice grafting on.

Might be easier to give Brogdale a call and buy some rootstock.

Ahh but this is about having fun, not easily buying things. We could all just easily buy veg from tescos if we wanted too :)

If you want cheap fun with quinces, but possibly hurry things up by a year or two you could always plant up a sucker that originates from below the scion of a pear tree as they are grafted onto quince rootstocks.

Something I've been meaning to try for a couple of years,
