Broad bean seed
« on: August 21, 2013, 18:26 »
Hi guys, I have loads of broad bean seeds, too many to keep for next year, so I was wondering if you can actually still eat the beans, even though they are really dried out?

Chuck it in - it won't grow in the packet!

I doubt in the dried state they would have turn poisonous......

Though  couldn't imagine wanting to eat them dried unless I (was starving)

I think off the top of my head broadbean seeds are good for a couple of years if you brought them this year you could save them til 2015?

Or perhaps swap with a fellow gardner?

If they are packeted seed then they may have a chemical treatment on them, so I certainly wouldn't eat them.

If they are self-saved seeds then you can eat them.

They have to be soaked overnight like any dried beans, before you can cook them. for recipes look for dried fava bean recipes, like this one..........
