Roast veg or even just roast squash makes a lovely warming soup.  When I roast the veg I add chilli, olive oil, sea salt and black pepper etc.  Then the whole lot gets turned into soup.  I use veg stock and ground cloves

When I roast veggies I always make more than I need as I love this soup

The addition of some Harissa paste when roasting the squash is very nice, then the whole lot is liquidisers for soup. Gives a nice spice to the soup.

a bit late to the party, but grated ginger is also good, with some nutmeg and chilli.
