I'm sure it'll last and look loverly... but my dad always used old cooking oil.

Ponged propper nice strong on a warm summers day - the shed still looks as good as new too.

It'd be one way of using up the old chip pan fat when those what inhabit the shed have finished their fry-ups  :)

(Some how I don't think this suggestion is going to go down too well.  ::)
